Estonian ID-ard Thales Upgrade

Starting November 2025, Estonia will begin issuing a new generation of national ID-cards. The government is moving ID-card production from IDEMIA to Thales, introducing a new chip and adding a second trust service provider, Zetes.

Zero Disruption for eID Easy Customers

If you use eID Easy’s Web eID–based Estonian ID-card login or signing, nothing changes for you.
We will update our systems to support Thales ID-cards automatically, so your users can continue to log in and sign documents without interruption.

Important for Customers Using Legacy ID-Card Login

eID Easy currently offers two Estonian ID-card login methods:

1. Web eID (recommended and fully supported)

2. Legacy ID-card login (deprecated by the Estonian government)

Only the Web eID implementation will be updated for Thales compatibility.
If you are still using the legacy method, you must switch to Web eID to ensure your users can log in with new Thales ID-cards.

How to Switch

It only takes a minute:

1. Open your eID Easy admin panel.

2. Go to My Webpages → Edit → Scroll down to Identification methods

3. Uncheck “Estonian ID card old login” and check “Estonian ID card login.”

That’s it. If you have a custom integration, our team will guide you through the update. Simply contact support@eideasy.com.

  • If you already use Web eID, relax, no action is needed.
