The European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) is a secure digital wallet on your phone that stores verified versions of official documents, such as identity documents, driver’s licences, and educational certificates.
It allows people to prove who they are (and specific facts about themselves) in a trusted and standardised way across Europe.

EUDIW is designed for situations where identity and trust matter. Instead of uploading document photos or repeating the same checks, users can share verified information directly from their wallet.
Quickly, securely, and with full control.

“The partnership with eID Easy offers our clients a swift and easy solution to extend their services across the European continent. Everything needed is combined in one API, eliminating the need for multiple local integrations. This leads to lower costs and faster delivery.”
EUDIW benefits individuals who want simpler, more secure digital interactions and organisations that need reliable identity verification.
It is especially relevant for industries where onboarding, access, and compliance depend on trusted identity:
At a high level, EUDIW works as follows:
A trusted authority issues a verified digital credential into the user’s wallet.
The user approves sharing from the wallet.
The user starts onboarding and is asked for specific information (e.g. identity or age).
The service receives verified data and can complete onboarding.
→ In some cases, the same wallet can also be used to sign documents as part of the flow electronically.

Each EU Member State must make at least one European Digital Identity Wallet available to users, completing the transition from pilot projects to real-world, regulated wallet usage under the updated eIDAS Regulation (eIDAS 2.0) across the EU.
Certain regulated organisations, where EU or national law requires identification (fintechs, telcoms, insurance, etc) will be required to accept the European Digital Identity Wallet as a valid method for identity verification and authentication.
→ The wallet must be accepted as an option, not necessarily as the only method
→ Organisations cannot refuse a user who chooses to identify using the wallet
→ Existing onboarding and identification methods can continue alongside EUDIW
In practise, if an organisation is already required to verify identity, the EUDI Wallet becomes one of the methods it must support.
