We’re continuing to track EU Digital Identity Wallet progress across Europe, not only in EU Member States, but also in candidate countries and neighbouring markets.
When we first started doing this, we were mainly looking for signs of availability: when would national wallets actually go live?
But it quickly became clear that this was not the most useful question.
Most countries are still publicly saying they expect to be ready in time. At the same time, many have not yet made anything available for the wider ecosystem to test, integrate with, or build against.
So our focus has shifted slightly.
Instead of asking only “is the wallet live?”, we’re tracking how open each national project is to the ecosystem.
- Can relying parties test it?
- Is there a public sandbox?
- Are developer materials available?
- Is there a way to start understanding how integration will work?
That is what our categories are really trying to show.
→ A public sandbox does not mean a wallet is fully launched. But it is a strong signal that the project is moving from policy and planning into something the market can start working with.
And for us, as we build out the eID Easy Wallet Hub for relying parties, that distinction matters.
The map below shows the latest snapshot as of 20 May 2026.

What changed this month?
The biggest movement this month comes from Switzerland and Moldova.
Switzerland has moved into the top category, with its swiyu public beta giving companies, authorities, and private individuals a way to engage with the infrastructure.
Moldova also moves into the top category, with an important note: its sandbox is not yet available to non-Moldovan users. Still, the direction of travel is clear, and Moldova continues to stand out among candidate countries.
Beyond those changes, we are also seeing steady signals of activity elsewhere.
Some countries are staying in the same category for several months, but that does not mean nothing is happening. We are watching procurement activity, consultations, pilot announcements, developer repositories, and public testing environments as they appear.
Examples include:
- Lithuania moving ahead with procurement and testbed-related activity
- Ireland running public consultation around its wallet plans
- Poland continuing to signal wallet development through mObywatel-related updates
Not every announcement means a country should move category. Some updates are meaningful for long-term progress, but do not yet change how open or testable the project is today.
So we’ll keep filtering the noise and tracking the signals that matter most for relying parties.
Why this still matters
The EU Digital Identity Wallet rollout will not happen in one clean moment.
- Some countries are opening up public sandboxes.
- Some are publishing repositories or developer materials.
- Some are upgrading existing national identity apps.
- Others are still mostly quiet from the outside.
That makes it hard for relying parties to know where to focus first.
→ Our goal with this tracker is to give a practical view of where wallet projects are becoming accessible enough to test, understand, and eventually integrate.
eID Easy's Role
Today, we already connect organisations to national eIDs and bank-based identity schemes across Europe. As EU Digital Identity Wallets become available in each country, they will be added alongside those existing methods.
One integration. Multiple identity methods.
