About

The Belgian ID card is a smart card embedded with a microchip that stores personal information.

Issued by the Belgian government, it is available to citizens aged 12 and older. For children under 12, a version without the signing functionality is offered, called the Kids-ID.

A separate version is also available for foreign residents.

Compliance

The Belgian ID card complies with eIDAS regulations and is a recognized Qualified Electronic Signature (QES) method in Europe.

This ensures that signatures made using the Belgian eID card are legally binding and meet the highest standards of security and legal recognition.

It enables secure eID authentication and electronic signing of documents, making it a reliable solution for digital transactions, both in Belgium and across the EU.
