SPID
SPID is Italy’s Public Digital Identity System that can be used in workflows that involve Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES), including hash-based QES scenarios—ideal for remote signing and API-integrated platforms.
About
SPID (Sistema Pubblico di Identità Digitale) is Italy’s Public Digital Identity System, enabling citizens and businesses to securely access online services offered by public administrations and private entities.
Managed by AgID (Agenzia per l’Italia Digitale), SPID provides users with a single digital identity, issued by accredited Identity Providers (IdPs).
In addition to authentication, SPID can be used in workflows that involve Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES), including hash-based QES scenarios—ideal for remote signing and API-integrated platforms.
Compliance
SPID is fully compliant with the eIDAS Regulation (EU) No 910/2014 and is recognized as a notified eID scheme across the European Union.
When paired with certificates issued by a Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP), SPID-based workflows can facilitate Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES) with full legal validity. T
his includes both regular QES (where the full document is signed) and hash QES (where only a cryptographic hash is signed and later matched to the original document). SPID adheres to strict Italian and EU-level standards for identity assurance, data protection, and cryptographic integrity.
